This dissertation examines the cultural and academic heritage of primary Missouri among 1820 and 1860, and specifically, the difficulty of master-slave relationships and the way they affected schooling (broadly outlined because the transmission of Southern culture). even though Missouri had one of many lowest slave populations through the Antebellum interval, significant Missouri - or what turned often called Little Dixie - had slave possibilities that rivaled many areas and counties of the Deep South. besides the fact that, slaves and slave proprietors interacted regularly, which affected cultural transmission within the components of faith, paintings, and neighborhood. regularly, slave vendors in Little Dixie confirmed a trend of paternalism in some of these parts, however the slaves didn't continually settle for their masters' paternalism, and tried to forge a lifetime of their own.
